The Role and Responsibilities of a Health Nurse Supervisor

Position Purpose:
A Horizons Summer Program Health Nurse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the health and safety of students and staff at both The Kent School, and The Gunston School and Washington College
Responsibilities:
The Health Nurse Supervisor will perform the following responsibilities and duties:
Organize, maintain and utilize adequate resources for serving the health and medical needs of the students and staff
- Assist in setting up the summer program Health Center
- Inventory and order all necessary medical supplies and equipment
- Assist with disassembling the summer program Health Center
Account for remaining medications according to State of Maryland regulations
- Maintain accurate and detailed medical records according to State of Maryland regulations
- Prepare and utilize daily medical log for treatment and medications
- Ensure all staff and students health and emergency records are on file
- Ensure that all medication administrations are documented correctly
Oversee First Aid procedures and supplies
- Prepare and distribute first aid kits throughout the program including classrooms, and activity areas and transportation vehicles
- Ensure supplies are well stocked and distributed as needed
Deliver staff training as needed
- Help to ensure staff know their role related to health care, CPR and first aid
- Ensure orientation is provided that includes specific student’s health and social needs, emergency procedures and first aid in the summer program setting.
Supervise Certified Medication Techs
- Be responsible for contacting parents concerning the status of their child’s health by telephone in the following situations/ but not limited to:
- Illness or injury
- Questions regarding medications
- Any prn medications administered and their effectiveness
- Be knowledgeable of community health resources
- Evaluate sites’ medical services. Review the Medical Log of sites at the end of the program and sign off
- Will be on-call for both sites for medical questions and concerns
Qualifications
- Registered nurse (RN) with a license as required the State of Maryland
- CPR certified
- Current First Aid certification and experience in first aid and emergency management
- Driver’s License
- Desire to work with children and young adults
- Community health knowledge
- Background check compliance/ clearance to work with children

Salary: $5,000

Position Purpose:
A Horizons Summer Program Certified Medication Tech/ CNA is responsible to support Horizons staff and students to ensure the safety and well-being of all.
Responsibilities:
A Certified Medication Tech/ CNA will perform the following responsibilities and duties:
- Attend orientation trainings and all required staff meetings
- Comply with all safety rules and regulations
- Deliver routine daily medications, either prescription or non-prescription, per doctor’s orders on file.
- Follow State of Maryland protocols on how to manage, administer, and document all medications and all health room visits
- Record medication dosages and times. Observe students and document effectiveness of medication
- Contact parent/ guardian when prescribed prn medication administered and effectiveness
- Ensure medical area is cleaned frequently throughout the day
- Uphold all health and safety standards
- Respond to all student/ staff health emergencies to identify medical needs
- Will keep the Health Nurse Supervisor and Site Director aware of medical concerns of student
- Will refer all medical questions to the Health Nurse Supervisor
- Assemble the health area prior to the summer program and disassemble at the end of the program
- Will keep a Medical Log with entries of all students’ medical interactions.
- Ensure the Health Nurse Supervisor reviews and signs at the end of the program
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or relevant qualification
- Must be a Certified Medication Tech/ Aid with a current Maryland license
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Good understanding of medical and pharmacological terminology
- Works well independently and is self-motivated
Re-Enrollment Begins on January 15
Re-Enrollment is only for families whose child attended the program the previous year and has been invited back. Your child will be invited back to Horizons if
they met the attendance, behavior and swim requirements for the previous summer.
THE 2025 PROGRAM
- Attendance is required. If you know your child will not be able to commit to the full 6 week program, do not re-enroll your child.
- Participation in swim lessons is required.
- Behavior Contract is required. The opportunity to attend Horizons is a PRIVILEGE. We reserve the right to ensure that each student has a safe and positive experience.
